Expecting a parade

We were in his truck, the one we called Dragon that would get totaled on the highway just a few years later. Drove down a road that cut through the suburbs until traffic came to a halt, then crawled behind a succession of slow-moving cars.

“Whoa, Dragon,” he said.

“Maybe it’s a funeral,” I said, at the same exact time he said, “Maybe it’s a parade.”
